Job description: Description :OVERVIEW:The Volunteer & PTM Coordinator is responsible to recruit and maintain volunteers for Silicon Valley Coordination (SVC) daily programs and events such as Back to School and Christmas Distribution. In addition, this position will manage The Salvation Army’s Protecting the Mission Program (PTM) that ensures we are keeping children and vulnerable adults safe. This position will need to coordinate with the managers of other SVC programs.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Volunteer Coordinator
- Under the supervision of the Director of Social Services, assist as needed in any area of SVC operations
- Create and maintain (electronically) volunteer job descriptions for each available opportunity
- Provide PR/Social Media/Event Coordinator volunteer opportunities that can be posted through various avenues such as Website, Volunteermatch.com, Advisory Organizations, Facebook, etc.
- Assure that all volunteers are cleared through The Salvation Army Protecting the Mission system, finger printing (when necessary), receive the proper training & orientation, and that background checks are completed (when necessary)
- Create volunteer recognition events and acknowledgements
- Track and report statistics relevant to volunteer participation
- Seasonal Events (Christmas Distribution and Back to School): recruit, register, train, and manage volunteers/volunteer groups, being present when volunteers are active
- Communicate with program managers to keep current on their volunteer needs
Protecting the Mission (PTM) Coordinator
- Coordinate PTM training for all staff and volunteers (as needed)
- Ensure that there is PTM compliance with programs, staff, volunteers, and structures
- Create reports as required
- Train volunteers and staff as required
- Participate in Divisional Training opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Valid CA driver’s license (required)
- Minimum 21 years of age (required)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and follow through on projects from beginning to end, with minimum supervision
- Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Must possess editing and media-level writing skills
- Ability to communicate efficiently and clearly both verbally and in writing
- Must be creative, organized, self-motivated, articulate, flexible, possess leadership skills and be able to work well with other staff members and volunteers
- Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality as determined by content of information or as directed by the Director of Social Services and/or County Coordinator.
