Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.The Kuiper team is looking for an exceptional Senior Packaging Engineer to join our team and drive standardization and efficiency for product packaging in our supply chain. The Sr. Packaging Engineer will work closely with Engineering, Global Commodity Management, Supplier Quality Management, and Operations teams in the US and abroad to define efficient, robust, and standardized packaging for our products. You will be a critical escalation path for packaging issues and work closely with partner teams to ensure cross-functional collaboration is effective.The team is looking for knowledge in the following fields of focus:
- Clean room compliant packaging
- Manufacturing kit packaging
- Transportation solutions
- Labeling and barcoding (including developing supplier standards for labeling/barcoding)
- Proven strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated critical thinking capability
- Enthusiasm for getting “hands on” with your team in collaborative environments
- Ability to identify risks, develop clear mitigation plans, and communicate effectively to executive stakeholders while handling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced rapidly evolving environment
Key job responsibilities
- Partner with operations to identify packaging/labeling defects impacting operations, including safety hazards created by packaging.
- Manage the development of Packaging concepts with Packaging Vendors and Component part Suppliers, ensuring material conformity and personnel safety.
- Plan and direct activities concerned with design and development of packaging. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of component, special handling and safety requirements.
- Create detailed packaging specifications for both components and manufacturing kits, including clean room compliance.
- Define standard labeling and barcoding specifications and partner with supply chain to drive adoption by suppliers. Monitor adherence to standards and drive corrective actions as appropriate.
- Scope new technology and/or opportunities in the packaging space.

Come join us as we begin satellite manufacturing and early customer pilots in 2024!BASIC QUALIFICATIONS– Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
– 5+ years of professional experience in manufacturing.
– 1+ years of experience working with CAD/CAM software (e.g. NX, Solidworks, CATIA, AutoCAD)
– 3+ years experience with clean room packaging requirements.
– Knowledge of ISTA test protocols.
– Understanding of packaging testing, materials, and processes.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS– Proven track record of creative package design.
– Experience designing packaging for large metallic components.
– Knowledge of sustainability, recycling, and regulations
– Industry association .participation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market.
