Job description: The Sourcing and Contracts Specialist develops corporate-led procurement programs designed to deliver benefits to the organization by improving cross-business unit spend and Seaspan ULC’s position in the marketplace. The work includes significant efforts to understand the business’ needs, capture all relevant requirements and pair with the supplier suited to provide Seaspan best value. The scope of the role is to lead specific procurement and contracting activities and provide support for large scale multi departmental projects. Job activities includes initiating and managing project bid administration, contract drafting, review and negotiations, renewals and administration.Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.What you’ll do

  • Complete day-to-day sourcing and contracting initiatives, including sourcing, market analysis, category reviews and risk mitigation strategy development.
  • Identify and apply appropriate competitive bid methods to ensure bid processes are conducted in a fair and timely manner while mitigating Seaspan’s exposure to risk.
  • Reviews and negotiates contractual terms and conditions.
  • Seeks approval and financial authority to execute agreements.
  • Implements contractual agreements reflecting all agreed pricing, schedules, payment terms and conditions to meet company’s expectations and needs.
  • Establishes supplier internal approvals, purchase orders and transactional elements to enable agreement payments.
  • Leads supplier performance reviews including the development and implementation of critical metrics that monitors and drives supplier performance.
  • Identifies, develops, leads and implements strategic procurement opportunities through established category review processes.
  • Uses cost-benefit analysis to assess opportunities that reduce costs, increase savings and enhance value that better serve the business.
  • Analyses spending patterns and business processes to recommend changes contributing to cost and operational efficiency.
  • Supports sourcing and contracting initiatives to capture and implement identified strategic procurements including developing competitive tendering (e.g. RFP), administration, analysis and summary recommendation from inception to completion.
  • Supports the sourcing and contracts team to ensures the integration of procurement services processes across Seaspan and extended business partners (suppliers, customers, finance, operations, legal, risk, etc.).
  • Liaise with the supply chain business partner to ensure compliance to Seaspan guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Supports the development of supply chain management training materials.

Performs additional duties as assigned.What you’ll bring

  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in supply chain management with a combination of operational and strategic procurement. Including experience in managing projects from start to finish; contract management, supplier relationship management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional certification or training through an accredited procurement society such as the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) or New Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP), The Logistics Institute (P. Log.), American Purchasing Society or The Association for Operations Management (APICS) CPIM program is desirable.
  • Experience in large company procurement preferred with experience in heavy manufacturing, construction or transportation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of strategic sourcing, competitive bidding, category management and negotiation

Advanced digital literacy including Microsoft office applications.

  • Able to develop appropriate negotiation strategy and tactics to deliver optimum outcomes for Seaspan.
  • Able to identify clear targets, adopt a flexible strategy and lead commercial discussions and disputes, both from a contractual and pricing perspective.

  • Time management, organizational and analytical skills. Keen attention to detail and accuracy.

The estimated salary for this position is $82,700 – $99,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
