Your work will be instrumental in meeting the ever-growing demand for high-speed data transmission and cloud-basedRole overviewWe are looking for a recent Grad or early in career candidate interested in learning about leading-edge networking technologies used in applications such as 5G xHaul, PON, Synchronization and SAT Performance testing. You will be responsible for crafting, reviewing, and executing test plans to ensure software and hardware quality implementations meeting customer requirements. You will have the opportunity to become a local subject matter expert in various key network technologies and protocols, along with understanding of global customer requirements.Your Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, implementation of test coverage, automation, validation, and documentation to deliver high quality and easy-to-use products.
- Learn customer use cases and deployment scenarios.
- Engage in continuous learning while developing skills in technologies: system and network virtualization (Containers, SDN, NFV), sophisticated routing, BGP, Segment Routing, EVPN, LDP, MPLS, fast switchover technologies, Ethernet services, Flexible Ethernet, and more.
- You will have the opportunity to learn from expert colleagues and mentors, while also being able to carve out your own areas of expertise.
- Establish yourself while delivering the next generation of applications in 5G xHaul, Passive Optical Networks (PON), Synchronization and Timing Solutions, EVPN, Segment Routing and other virtualized network devices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages.
- Strong problem-solving skills / ability to troubleshoot and perform fault isolation
- Quick learner, willing to work in a multifaceted environment
- Highly motivated and engaged, independent self-starter with good time leadership skills
- Working in a team environment while taking accountability and working independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with two or more from the following: web application development, Unix/Linux environments, mobile application development, distributed and parallel systems, machine learning, information retrieval, natural language processing, networking, developing large software systems, and/or security software development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or further education or experience in engineering, computer science or another technical related field.
- Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, or Go.
- Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed.
- Automation programming skills and experience testing networking features in an agile environment.
- Experience in a virtualized, micro-services oriented, container-based system architecture.
- Understanding of Ethernet (L2) protocols, Routing/IP (L3) network, MPLS, Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), ethernet and/or packet network time synchronization. Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stack is desired.
- Experience working with networking devices and tools such as routers, switches, servers, traffic generators (Ixia, TRex).
Compensation & Benefits:The annual pay range for this position is $64,100 – $102,300 CAD.Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
