  • Recruitment range: $60,120- $66,270 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: starting salary to max of $78,155 is available through annual performance increases.

Job SummaryUVic’s Science Venture, a network member of Actua, is an award-winning, university-based educational outreach program that encourages youth participation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Science Venture delivers a variety of programs including weeklong campus, in-school/campus workshops, and afterschool/weekend clubs. Through strong community partnerships with communities in BC and other youth serving organizations, Science Venture reaches over 17,000 BC youth in kindergarten through grade 12 per year. Undergraduate students, including work-study and co-op, provide program delivery. Additional support is provided by 60+ high school volunteers. Science Venture actively contributes to the strategic priorities of UVic by supporting: an engaged campus, student experience, internationalization, community engagement, and Indigenous community/student support.Under the direction of the Director, STEM Youth Outreach, the Program Coordinator: Highschool and Gender Equity, will lead and coordinate both the Gender Equity and Highschool-program portfolios of Science Venture’s year-round programming. They will be involved in the organization, planning, and delivery of all-girls, LGBTQIA2S+ and high school outreach events, summer camps/summer institutes, workshops, and after-school, weekend, or in-school clubs.Outreach activities take place 7 days a week and operate on evenings and weekends. Workload is heavy from April to September when workshops and camps are in session, limiting the opportunity to take vacation during the summer months.Science Venture’s “all-girls” programs take an inclusive view to the word “girl”, and welcomes all non-binary, transgender, two-spirit and genderqueer youth to participate in these programs.Job RequirementsThe successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (science, engineering, education) with at least 1 year of experience working with children and youth in educational camps and/or recreational settings. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

Assets:

  • A BC Class 5 driver’s license
  • Familiarity and knowledge of the BC Science and ADST curriculum
  • Familiarity with the University of Victoria campus and program/degree options
  • Experience with graphic design (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Canva)
  • Familiarity with WHMIS, Lab Safety, Biosafety and UVic’s Hazardous Waste Management system
  • Familiarity with the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel) and GSuite
  • Other certifications: Class 4 Drivers License, Informed Trauma Response, Youth Inclusion or HIGH FIVE Training would all be considered assets
