This is a three-year position subject to annual renewal contingent upon performance and funding.Duties
- Act as resource person for all laboratory students and staff to ensure appropriate training, proper protocols, technique and use of equipment including but not limited to ordering supplies, maintaining inventories and performing equipment calibration and maintenance;
- Ensure all lab users have the required safety/biosafety training and that the laboratory has up to date SOP’s along with participation in required health and safety compliance processes;
- Assist highly qualified personnel with experiments on antimicrobial resistance to meet experimental objectives;
- Prepare solutions and reagents and troubleshoot any issues with equipment and experimental protocols;
- Keep up to date with relevant literature as it pertains to our research, analyze and prepare data for manuscripts and attend and present research results at group meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- BSc in biological sciences or a related field;
- Experience working in a microbiology laboratory
- Demonstrated experience with standard microbiology techniques and equipment
- Ability to adapt and learn new instrumentation and protocols
- Experience working with yeast
- Demonstrated competence using standard computer packages (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.)
- Able to organize own time and work unsupervised
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications
- MSc level qualification or higher (or equivalent experience) relevant to laboratory-based microbiology work;
- Demonstrated experience performing drug susceptibility testing;
- Demonstrated experience working with pathogenetic/Candida yeasts;
- Demonstrated experience with mathematical/scientific/graphics software (e.g. MATLAB, BioRender, etc.)
