We are seeking an innovative & collaborative Linux Systems Admin to join our Core Technology Services (CTS) portfolio in our ITS Department! Our group is a unified team recognized Bank-wide for being diverse, inclusive, and passionate about the work we do to help the Bank become digital, ready, and resilient.Led by the Assistant Director, Operating System (OS) Platform Services, we are continuously investing to deliver outstanding services in a world-class organization where automation is combined with best practices to streamline and standardize products as well as improve the speed of delivery for Canada’ Central Bank.Additionally, you will also have many opportunities for career development – both inside and outside of the portfolio. As a Linux Systems Administrator, you will join a high performing, hard-working team that is responsible for the ongoing support, maintenance, and improvement of the Bank’s RedHat Enterprise Linux server platform as well as Solaris. You will provide technical guidance, improvements, and support along with planning, coordination, administration, and patching. You will also assist in performance monitoring, tuning and capacity planning of the operating system, and the range of products that support the development and testing of the production environments.In addition, you will:

  • Provide support for RHEL 8 and 9 within your area of expertise; monitor performance of systems and service agreements to ensure that ongoing service-delivery standards, service levels and IT policies are met
  • Analyze system needs; perform process re-engineering, operation management and research
  • Work autonomously, as well with other support teams, to analyze diagnostic information and/or resolve uncommon or complex problems in a multi-functional setting, assessing, and communicating technological issues that affect the functional or corporate level, and recommend solutions to more senior colleagues or management
  • Develop IT standard operating procedures for technology support and administration
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external counterparts (partners, clients, and suppliers) to support operational objectives

Note – The nature of this work will require additional paid on-call as well as paid overtime. These requirements are subject to change but typically involves an on-call rotation within the team of 1 week on-call every month (estimated) depending on capacity and team requirements. The Bank offers flexible work hours to accommodate.What you need to succeed
You are a proactive thinker, and you question the status quo with the ability to take ownership in helping resolve technical challenges while communicating effectively and collaborating across diverse product and development teams. You also possess the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks concurrently with strong relationships skills.Further, you have strong technical leadership, teamwork, negotiating and technical decision-making skills needed to support a 24/7/365, multi-tiered large-scale production environment.In addition, you have:

  • Proven experience with System administration and hardware support with Linux operating systems including the maintenance and upgrading of RHEL 8, and 9
  • Experience managing and deploying RHEL Linux servers in Azure public cloud
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux (including development of playbooks and automation through Ansible)
  • Experience using Ansible to automate configuration of RHEL subsystems

Nice-to-have

  • Familiar with leapp upgrading
  • Working knowledge of git and vscode
  • Experience with Vrealize deployment and Vmware imaging
  • Experience with Hardening (OPENSCAP)
  • Knowledge of installation, configuration and tuning of Solaris (ver.11.4) servers using OVM

Your combined education and work experience demonstrate that you have the proficiencies and skills for the role. We are ideally seeking candidates with a relevant degree/diploma and 5+ years of relevant experience.What you need to know

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $90,535 to $106,512 (job grade 16)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (3%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
