They will create, test, and implement new and innovative ways for students to be informed, instructed, and inspired, so they acquire the skillset, the mindset, and the connections that increase the likelihood they pursue entrepreneurship and increases their success potential when they do.This position will work with students to intentionally build their professional networks while studying in order for them to begin using their network post-graduation to assist them in getting jobs, professional development and career success.Working with internal and external stakeholders, students, instructors, and industry, will develop ideas, resources and partnerships that assist BVC learners, alumni and under-served communities of aspiring or first-time entrepreneurs who want to pursue Entrepreneurship ventures or work in Alberta’s startup community and business sector.This position will build a more equitable entrepreneurship ecosystem that creates economic mobility for Bow Valley College learners while helping grow Alberta’s Startup Community and business sector.The Successful candidate will lead the Chiu School of Business efforts to create and deliver high-impact opportunities for students and alumni, aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs to develop the skillset, mindset and connections needed to validate, launch, and scale promising business ideas by:
- Encouraging Bow Valley College students and alumni to step out of their comfort zone by regularly running events that inform, instruct and inspire them so can see themselves creating a full-time or part-time venture.
- Building a network of mentors and seasoned business contacts and entrepreneurs to assist students in developing promising business ideas and advise them on how to validate, enhance and advance promising business ideas.
- Running the VentureQuest business idea competition that kick-starts aspiring Bow Valley College learners and Alumni who aspire to have their own business or side hustle and helps them see the full potential of their ideas.
- Conducting monthly workshops on different elements of Social Entrepreneurship so that students are inspired and empowered to act on the Social Entrepreneurship ideas they have.
- Soliciting successful entrepreneurs from across North America to participate in class visits, panel discussions and other events related to developing entrepreneurial ventures.
As a Network Building and Development champion, the Entrepreneurship Innovation and Networking Lead will guide the Chiu School of Business efforts to assist students in building their professional networks for use the rest of their careers. While also leading Business efforts to liaise with external partners to provide additional networking support and resources to students and alumni.Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preference for additional completion of a post-secondary certificate in a related field (business, management, new venture creation)
- 7 + years’ experience
- Has researched, launched, run, grown, and received funding for their own high growth business venture(s)
- Experience in mentoring/coaching for national or international incubators or accelerators
- Extensive experience mentoring aspiring, first-time and early-stage entrepreneurs
- Deep domain expertise in key areas of business and entrepreneurship
- Ability to analyze, evaluate and assesses complex information
- Ability to coach and consult
- Ability to use independent judgment and communicate effectively
- Demonstrated proficiency in establishing and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.
