Job description: The Personnel/Finance/HR Systems Specialist for the Juneau City and Borough School District will manage and optimize the software systems supporting finance, personnel, and human resources operations. This salaried position requires expertise in accounting and personnel management software, with a strong preference for experience in school districts, municipal governments, and the budgeting process within the state of Alaska. The Specialist will also have experience managing personnel, focusing on enhancing system integration, improving automations within the employee portal, and ensuring effective support for public employee unions and budgetary compliance.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • System Management: Administer, configure, and maintain HR, finance, and personnel software systems used across the school district.
  • Personnel Management: Oversee personnel management processes, ensuring best practices in hiring, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and security of data within all HR and finance systems.
  • Automation Enhancement: Work to improve automations within the employee portal, streamlining processes for end-users and enhancing user experience.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Generate and analyze reports to support decision-making for the District’s HR, finance, and budget operations.
  • User Support & Training: Provide technical support and training to staff on the use of HR and finance systems.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with the IT department and other teams to integrate personnel and finance systems with other District software.
  • Union Support: Ensure that systems effectively support the needs of public employee unions, including contract management, compliance, and reporting.
  • Budget Process Support: Utilize knowledge of the budgeting process within the state of Alaska, local municipalities, and school districts to ensure compliance and accurate budget reporting.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain comprehensive system documentation and ensure compliance with district policies, applicable regulations, union agreements, and budgetary guidelines.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline HR, finance, and personnel processes, enhancing system efficiency.
  • Vendor Management: Work with software vendors to manage system updates, resolve issues, and plan for future enhancements.
  • Project Management: Lead or assist with special projects, such as system upgrades, data migrations, or new software implementations.

Other Duties: Be prepared to take on additional duties as assigned to support the District’s operational needs.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, or a related field. Relevant experience may be used to substitute educational requirements and additional certifications are a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with accounting and personnel software systems.
  • Experience within a school district or municipal government setting is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience in system administration, data management, and reporting.
  • Experience working with public employee unions is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the budgeting process in the state of Alaska, local municipalities, and school districts is strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a manager of personnel is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in HRIS, ERP, accounting, and finance software systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and other data management tools.
  • Experience with process automation and system optimization.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Standard office environment within the District’s administrative offices, with occasional need to travel to various school sites for training or support.
  • May require extended hours during system upgrades or implementations.

COMPENSATION:
This is a 260-day contract; Salary: Range M on the Classified Exempt Salary Schedule $71,266.90 – $123,537.01 DOE Juneau School District offers an excellent benefit package which includes an employer-sponsored health plan (medical, dental and vision), employer paid life insurance plan, membership with the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan, an optional, voluntary deferred compensation program is available.Selected hire will be fingerprinted at the applicant’s expense and fignerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.

Expected salary: $71266.9 – 123537.01 per year
