Job description: OverviewABOUT THE POSITIONVHB is seeking an Environmental Planning Intern to work in our Hauppauge, NY office for Summer 2025.Responsibilities

  • Prepare Environmental Assessment Statements/Forms, Environmental Impact Statements and similar environmental review documentation, which includes preparing quantitative, qualitative and spatial analyses for the planning-related chapters, including: land use, zoning and public policy; community facilities; open space; socioeconomic conditions; shadows; urban design; and infrastructure.
  • Prepare environmental permitting documents
  • Conduct site visits for various projects to survey land use, urban design, historic resources, and site conditions
  • Consult and coordinate with regulatory agencies
  • Coordinate with project team members

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Fast learner, self-motivated
  • Highly organized
  • Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks concurrently
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and GIS
  • Experience with SketchUp and Adobe Suite a plus

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be a current student working towards their BS or master’s degree in urban planning/studies, environmental science, public policy, or a related field.

Hiring Salary Range: $19/hr – $28/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.VHB does not provide housing for internships.We are VHB!
