We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play here, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place.The OpportunityWe’re looking for someone who is able to complete Banff Centre training within a prescribed timeframe in order to successfully attain an Engineer 5th class certification. Financial assistance may be available as per Banff Centre learning agreement guidelines. We are looking for someone with an interest and aptitude in mechanical systems to join our team of experienced tradespeople.The 5th class power engineer (Building operator B) is a key member of the Physical Facilities department and will work to keep our campus and facilities operating smoothly. This position oversees the running maintenance of pumps, motors, fans, air filters, and other equipment related to heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, identifying any equipment in need of repair or replacement. The power engineers maintain a recorded history of maintenance for each piece of equipment at Banff Centre, preparing written reports of defects requiring attention, and sourcing and ordering replacement parts and materials as needed. The power engineers are also responsible for testing water and performing chemical treatment of all water systems outside of the main plant. Tasks and work locations across campus will vary daily, so the Power Engineers are expected to prioritize their daily work and work efficiently.Specific Accountabilities

  • Assist in some minor repair or adjustments and perform basic plumbing duties.
  • Perform daily rounds of mechanical rooms, chemical testing and treatment of boilers.
  • Monitor and add chlorine and muriatic acid to pool systems in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
  • Responsible for preventative, demand, and emergency maintenance and repair of campus wide pumps, motors, fans, air filters and other equipment related to the heating, cooling and ventilation systems.

Qualification and Educational Requirements

  • Experience in operation and/or maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Mechanical-aptitude and some knowledge of principles related to fans, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Engineer 5th class certification (Or willing to obtain within a prescribed timeframe if not already achieved.)
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and to work on ladders, scaffolds, etc.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License.

Special Requirements

  • Complete Banff Centre training within a prescribed period of time and successfully attain 5th class engineer certification. Financial assistance may be available as per Banff Centre learning agreement guidelines.
  • Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.

Employment Terms & Benefits

  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, permanent, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
  • This position has an annual salary between $43,056 and $51,714 per year depending on experience and certifications. This position works 37.5 hours per week.
